My sister gave me such a wonderful gift for Chanukah this year — she knows how much I love having flowers in my apartment, so she put some cash together in an envelope and dubbed it my flower fund. This past weekend I bought my first batch of flowers from the fund: some tulips from the local bodega. Note to self: tulips are currently cheaper at Whole Foods than at my bodega!! Gotta stretch that flower fund out for as long as I can!

On the Up & Up
So I was down for the count this week with the plague — was out of the office for three days. I don't remember the last time I was out sick that long. I'm on the road to recovery now, although not 100% yet, but looking forward to my weekend, which includes: visits to Ward III and Weather Up Tribeca, a trip to the schvitz, my maiden voyage to Sripraphai, slow cooker pork & bean chili, mac & cheese, punch, the Super Bowl and, of course, the Puppy Bowl (how can you resist this lineup?). It will also include the gym, which I haven't seen in over a week (thanks, plague!). And, for your reading pleasure, my latest on Serious Eats New York: Meet & Eat: Caroline Dorn & Loryn Lopes, Butter Queen of Brooklyn.

Weekend Wrapup (Three-Day Edition)
Friday night at Mayahuel; domestic goddess duty on Saturday, including a trip to the Greenmarket, Greenmarket brunch, making pinto bean soup and tomato sauce, Lani Kai and Fatty Johnson's on Saturday night; lazy Sunday with a big nap and an early evening visit to the Rhum Rhum Room followed by a trip to Terroir; Monday I had brunch at El Cobre, did some laundry, and topped off the weekend with a cozy Sunday dinner featuring lasagna. All in all a wonderful weekend, but given the weather today, I could have used another day to laze about in my pj's.

Party Time!
Tonight's theme song for my 40th Bday celebration! Many thanks to Mom, Dad, Joan & Stephen for their generosity, and to my external living room for hosting.

Scenes from a Blizzardy Birthday
I was looking forward to this all year! The seafood tower at Blue Ribbon, complete with lobster, scallops, oysters, clams, crab, shrimp, caviar, and two shots of Stoli. And the view of my backyard on the way home. Many many thanks to Noel, Sarah, Arlan, Rachel, Kim and Katie for trekking across states and boroughs through the insanity to help me celebrate what might have very well been my most memorable birthday of all time. Love you all.

Weekend Wrapup
Can be summed up thusly: Holiday. Cheer. Overdose. Colin & Jen's Festivus party on Friday (with my first eggnog of the season, spiked with Sombra Mezcal — yum!), brunch with the girls on Saturday, and Tara, Neil & Lauren's party Saturday night. Other than that, errands, holiday shopping, napping, and quality time on the couch. Four more days and then vacation from Xmas eve through New Years. Can't wait!
Thanks again to the party hosts!

Feel Free to Call Me a Wimp, But . . .
as the weather gets colder, I'm realizing that the odds of my running that 15k I mentioned are somewhat slim. I've been staying indoors for my runs since the temperature has been hovering in the 30's — not sure I can hack it. I'm trying to amp up the exercise regardless, but mostly at the gym and not in the cold. Also, there are at least two holiday parties on my agenda the night before . . .

Contradictions
Normally I am not a little dog person, but I totally fell in love with Barley, my friends Rachel & Najib's dog this weekend. I think he fell in love with me a little too. Just sayin'. I really couldn't have asked for a better weekend — catching up with Lauren, Caroline & Tara at Highlands and Daddy-o, a run before First Saturday brunch with killer conversations, bacon, homemade granola, and some of the most amazing friends I have, dinner and drinks at the Counting Room (thanks, Vince & Maks!) with @jakehparrott and @jasonmader, late-night bloody mary prep, giving high fives to the marathon runners in Brooklyn, with cameo appearances from Doug, Leora & Galit, hanging on the stoop drinking aforementioned bloodys, Hall & Oates, plenty of laughter, afternoon laziness, a bit of work, and a good night's sleep.PS — if I ever start a band it's going to be called "A Jew Like Me." Think it'll catch on?
