I am going to have to follow in Youngna’s footsteps because I thought she had such a good idea — if you’re out there, and reading this, I would absolutely love for you to take the time and say hello in the comments. I only have such a vague idea of who you are, really, beyond my mom, dad, stepmom and a select few others. Are you an old friend? Someone I met at a party? A complete and total stranger? Whatever — I’d love to hear from you!
UPDATE: This is not going as I planned — I see the traffic, I know you’re visiting. Leave a comment! Don’t be afraid.

Yay!!! Thanks Hilary, and welcome!

I’ll follow that up. Long ago, when someone did a music meme that they tagged all their friends with, I added everyone to my feeds list, and I suppose you were one of them. Congratulations on surviving two rounds of me deleting threads I considered worthless! It’s been an enjoyable read.

I live in San Francisco, originally from NY- and have many friends that still live in NYC. Reading your blog, its great to hear of the culinary, friend-filled life you lead- especially of your summer’s on Fire Island. Keep writing, keep eating and keep meeting new people. We’re reading.

Still here, even though I haven’t seen you in what, a year? We should still do lunch sometime!
Anyhow, still thoroughly enjoying all of your posts. Keep it up.

Hi Laren! Just a guy living in the Northwest (Eastern Washington to be more exact) that stumbled across your site while searching by bike ride/cycling reports on Google… your life reports living and working (and eating!) in NYC are intriguing to one living out in the middle of nowhere. Our best restaurant option is Eagle Lakes Resort http://www.eaglelakesranch.com/
Kind of a nice, rustic place but just about the only option for something beyond McDonalds. Keep up the great posts – you are the intrinsic brightness of the blog world!

Laren: I am the guy you should have slept with in college. Because that didn’t happen, I now creepily check your site from time to time, sometimes even while clothed, and occasionally send in inappropriate links. Which, per your long-standing support of quasi-benign lefty dictatorships, you censor. Also, I have always had a better palate than you and am a much better chef.

I love this! Keep ’em coming.
Jonathan, if you’re such a better chef, why don’t you invite me over for dinner and prove it sometime, tough guy 😉

Hey, Laren. Just dropping by, as I’m wont to do.

Well I live on the other side of the pond from, I’m guessing, most of your readers in Scotland – and it’s actually a lovely sunny day!
I’ve been reading and checking up on Laren for…. quite some time now and we met up back in November 2004.

I stumbled upon your blog Googling for “kismet” — I am also a foodie, FI-lander and NYC lover. I’ll look for you in Kismet this summer. Fun stuff!

Hello from Wise County, Texas. I enjoy the different perspective that reading blogs brings to my life. Yours is one of my favorites because of its balance of varied topics, great photos, interesting links, food/wine talk and personal touch. Please keep up the good work.

Originally found your blog through Nichelle’s Newsletter and again by googling BLT Fish Shack for a trip to NYC (was delish, by the way). Don’t know you, not a New Yorker, from Louisiana.

Ok, well I’m still reading, looking for foodie insights. We met three times a while ago, but haven’t managed to recently. This weekend I’m guest-blogging over here

Laren, we met briefly at the Lobster Pound in Naples, Maine. I find you (and your blog) simply indispensable. Keep up the good work.

I met you at a place called “OTTO” it’s down in the village somewhere– 10th Street I think?? I passed you a love poem on a drink coaster, you left me with your tab.
And I also know some of your friends like “Luke” and “Nic” and, also, your friend “Davis”– who just got back from Cambodia(?)– I believe he’s a veterinarian.

Hey! I don’t know you, but I think I found your blog through Planet Gordon, and yours was one of the first that I regularly read, even before I started my own. I like hearing about the food, the adventures, the city, the jackasses. (And I almost went into the kind of law you do, so that’s cool too!)

Just a stranger, I’m afraid. Don’t recall how I came across your site. Probably read something you wrote on Gothamist re: food and was curious about who was behind it. I come back for a visit every so often. This is my first time I’ve ever responded or commented to a blog or virtually anything on the web as I’m purely a WWW passerby but now that you’ve got me started, the one thing I’d say is that based on what I’ve read, you seem like a terrific, caring, life-loving, adventurous person. And we don’t have enough of those in the world. Good luck. It ain’t easy being living in NY, let alone single.

Hello! I’m a former foodblogger, current law student and consistent lurker. You’ve commented on my blog a few times b/c I linked to you. I started reading your blog when you became Food Editor at Gothamist. Keep up the great work!

Sweet Laren,
I pop in every once in a while to peek in your virtual window. Did you really stick that guy with your tab? Well done!
somewhere upstate : )
Jeff
gosh, this thing actually puts the commenter’s email link in it? I’ll find a crappy one that I never use…
