My Eye: A Poem for the Day
My eye,
My eye,
Why oh why
do you make me cry?
And you feel so dry.
I try
to get by
And then I realize
this is why
I constanty sigh
that I should wear my glasses to work.

Booze You Can Use: Manhattan Cocktail Classic THIS WEEK!
If you're not giddy with anticipation about the Manhattan Cocktail Classic, you should be. Although many events are sold out, here are my picks for those with tickets still available.
- the Gala – not to be missed. Period. Party at the New York Public Library.
- Stories from Behind the Bar: Huckleberry Bar – yes, you have to travel to Brooklyn, but I promise it's worth it. The team behind Huckleberry has a great place, excellent food and drink, and a garden to boot!
- History: What is it Good For? – David Wondrich. Need I say more?
- Spirits in a Blind, or How Spirits Professionals Describe Spirits with Something other than "I like it." – perfect for all of us cocktail writers out there.
- Lustau! Not Your Grandmothers Sherry! – Do not fear the Sherry. At Terroir, so even better.
Check the ticket page for more events, and I'll see you at MCC!

Got Underberg?
The perfect finish to a dinner at Prime Meats. Thanks to @rockdoggydog, @cantinasf, and @halw for the company and conversation!

Drink of the Day
And for Cinco de Mayo, a classic margarita. Enjoy! I don't see any margaritas, tequila, mezcal or Mexican cuisine in my future tonight, oddly . . .
Margarita
1½ oz Tequila
1 oz Cointreau
½ oz Lime JuiceShake all of the ingredients over ice for 10-15 seconds. Strain into a chilled, salt-rimmed (optional) cocktail glass.

Eat This: Slow-Cooker Curried Chicken with Ginger and Yogurt
I'm going to let you in on a secret. This recipe is dreadfully easy, relatively healthy (I skip the white rice and use brown basmati cooked with onions and Indian aromatics), and has received rave reviews every single time I've made it for company. In fact, it's cooking away in my slow cooker while I'm at work today (thanks again for the slow cooker, Bill!). My gift to you: Slow-Cooker Curried Chicken with Ginger and Yogurt | Real Simple Recipes. Enjoy!

Pretty in Pink
Started off my weekend with a Spanish Wine, Cheese and Ham class with Mom & Stephen at the Brooklyn Museum by Brooklyn Fermented. One of my favorite wines of the evening was this beauty in the middle — the Gurrutxaga Rosé 2010, a lovely rosé Txakolina. I'll be picking up a few bottles of this for sure! -
Desire
- Galaxy Tab
- Olympus E-PL2 camera
- Fancy-pants new bike TBD
- Dinner at é by José Andrés while I'm in Vegas
- Bike trip in Europe in August/September
- December trip to Thailand
- New mattress
That all said, I can't have it all. May end up with none of it, and use the money towards canine care for my future dog, who is certain to be spoiled rotten.
