Booze You Can Use: Drink for the Dogs!
Each month, LUPEC NYC holds an event called Broad Appeal, where a female bartender and her "celebrity" male barback make special cocktails and donate proceeds to charity. This month, Ivy Mix and Miguel Calvo, both dog-lovers, will be behind the bar, with proceeds benefitting the wonderful Badass Brooklyn Animal Rescue. Ivy and I both got our pups from Badass, and they are an all-volunteer operation, so every bit helps. Sadly, I'll be out of town, but go have a drink and tell 'em Moxie sent you. 8-12 p.m. on Tuesday, August 21st at Macao Trading Company.

Booze You Can Use: Whisky and Women Unite!
Mark your calendars! On March 8th, Compass Box and the New York Chapter of LUPEC (Ladies United for the Preservation of Endangered Cocktails) are joining forces for the third annual Whisky and Women Unite, a cocktail party benefitting Bottomless Closet. The first one started as a piggyback on the tweetups I had been doing, and it was such a great success that they did a second event last year.
This year, Lani Kai hosts the fête, and LUPEC members Meaghan Dorman, Lynnette Marrero, Abigail Gullo, Eryn Reece Karin Stanley, and hostess Julie Reiner will create cocktails for the event featuring the newest relase from Compass Box, Great King Street – Artist’s Blend. The cocktails will be $8, and a portion of the proceeds will go to Bottomless Closet, which helps disadvantaged NYC women become self-sufficient through comprehensive programming and support.
March 8th, 6-8 p.m., Lani Kai, 525 Broome Street between Thompson and Sullivan. See you there!!

TweetUp Upgrade
So, these booze-focused TweetUps that I've been organizing are hitting the big time. What first started as six people for brown liquor at Char No. 4, then maybe 15 for clear liquor at Double Crown, followed by about 20 for rum at Elettaria and then about 25 for tequila at Cabrito is now giving it a whirl at the new bar space at Astor Center. Mark your calendars for 11/2. We're still working out the details, like ticket cost, but it's sponsored by Chartreuse and the lovely ladies of LUPEC NYC will be developing cocktails and working the bar. Jean Marc Roger, the president of Chartreuse Diffusion, will be in town and will lead us through a tasting, and there will be several Chartreuse cocktails available. I'm incredibly excited, and I hope you all can make it! Please RSVP here (although you'll need tickets in advance – details to follow) and spread the word!
