  • Weekend Wrapup

Friday night we had a fundraiser for the D&P Triathlon team, then early to bed for me as I had a 6:30 a.m. (yes, you read that correctly) brick workout (approx 15 mile bike and 5 mile run). I was wiped afterwards, and lounged about for the remainder of the day until heading out for drinks at Mayahuel. I had fully intended to go there alone while waiting to meet up w/Rob, but of course ran into people — @daisy17 & @brooklynwino. I love the days when NYC feels like a small town. After Rob showed up and we had a few drinks, we were off to Kasadela for a garlic & kimchi filled dinner.

Sunday I allowed myself to sleep in, which was blissful and much-needed. Afterwards, I headed out to meet friends at Clover Club for brunch, which is always delicious. Made a quick pit-stop at Char No. 4, then headed back to Manhattan for some errands, laundry (why do I feel like all I do is wash workout gear?), and Harry Potter (because I am a proud nerd). After the movie I had an unbearable craving for ramen — likely because I had bought a copy of Lucky Peach earlier and was reading about ramen — so picked up some take-out from Momofuku Noodle Bar, which served as dinner last night and will be lunch today! All in all, a lovely weekend.

Ooh — forgot to mention: my soundtrack for the weekend was Girl Talk. Love. I may be late to the game, but I just found my new workout soundtrack.

  • I Wonder . . .

I've been pondering the following lately: Is it possible to do my job outdoors in the shade on gorgeous summer days? What would my life look like if I left NYC? Why don't I cook more when I love to do it so much? How can I manage to live abroad for a month or more? I've been blogging since 2002 – doesn't this entitle me to a free 4/3 camera (Olympus, can you hear me)? How would my life be different if I moved to Brooklyn? Will I be a good dog owner? Why did I have to get a mosquito bite smack in the middle of my shoulder blades where I can't possibly reach it?

  • Settling Down

I had an interesting conversation with a guy friend last night about how he's been thinking lately about settling down. One interesting point he raised was that he's thinking about moving to San Francisco, because NYC isn't conducive to settling down.  I've pondered this very issue myself. I think this is why I'm leaning towards moving to Brooklyn (at some point) and getting a dog — to force a little settling down on my end — but I agree with him that it's pretty damn hard to settle down here. What do you think?

  • Savor

    sa·vor /ˈsāvər/ verb.

    1. Taste (good food or drink) and enjoy it completely

    2. Enjoy or appreciate (something pleasant) completely, esp. by dwelling on it

    3. Derive or receive pleasure from; get enjoyment from; take pleasure in

First of all, not a bad life philosophy. Second of all, guess who's going to Blue Hill at Stone Barns today?

  • Family Fun Time!

This weekend and today were family-filled and full of celebrations.  First, I spent Saturday and Sunday celebrating the wedding of my cousin Jennifer to her lovely husband Dawson, then returned to attend my brother Bill's graduation(cum laude – smartypants!) from Brooklyn Law School today.  It was great to spend time with my many cousins, aunts & uncles who I don't get to see all that often, and I'm so proud of my baby brother, who will be following in my footsteps and joining the public interest legal world (do-gooderism runs in the family).  Congrats and Mazel Tov to all!

  • Two Sides to Every Coin

I was having a conversation with a friend this weekend about how recently she witnessed a couple having what she described as a "vicious fight" on the street.  Her reaction?  "I thought to myself, sometimes it's really great being single."  Similarly, I had a conversation with someone recently about how easy it is to be single sometimes — you can do what you want, you're not responsible to anyone else, you make plans when you want, you travel where you want, you make life decisions without having to take anyone else's opinion into consideration (unless you want to).  I'm certainly enjoying that degree of freedom while I have it, because although I enjoy it and treasure it, I don't plan on being single forever. . .

  • My Eye: A Poem for the Day

    My eye,
    My eye,
    Why oh why
    do you make me cry?
    And you feel so dry.
    I try
    to get by
    And then I realize
    this is why
    I constanty sigh
that I should wear my glasses to work.
    Moron.

  • Desire

    Samsung-Galaxy-Tab1-300x300 On my current wishlist:

That all said, I can't have it all. May end up with none of it, and use the money towards canine care for my future dog, who is certain to be spoiled rotten.

  • Weekend Wrapup

Shrimp boil & sazeracs on Friday, spin class and brunch at Prune with Kim on Saturday followed by a nap, The Social Network, and a relaxing evening, Sunday Metallica/Black Sabbath lesson, reading, writing, then Easter dinner at Lauren's followed by more writing. This Jew had quite a bit of pork and shellfish during this fine Passover weekend, but miraculously passed over the temptation of a Super Heebster at Russ & Daughters.

  • Spring Cleaning

Just in case you didn't notice, I've done a little spring cleaning here at Sweet Blog o' Mine. I cleaned out (and am still updating) my blogroll, did a little redesign, and removed some redundant links, etc. I hope you like it!  Now if I could just do the same thing with my clothes and some of the junk around my apartment I'd be all set. . .
