  • Spring Has Sprung

I know this because I've got hyacinths on my dining table, the trees are in bloom, it was 80 degrees yesterday, I've got my first spring shoe blister, and I've had my first ramps, rosé, and Cadbury Creme Egg of the season. I've been waiting for you . . .

  • Sammy the Snake

I am having way too much fun following @BronxZoosCobra on Twitter: "Leaving Wall Street. These guys make my skin crawl. #snakeonthetown"

And in related news, does anyone remember this?

  • Dear Winter,

With all due respect, please fuck off.  I'm done with you. I'm over you like a bad boyfriend. Go back to the Southern hemisphere where you belong right now, because I'm ready to run and bike outside without bundling up, my toes are gasping for air and sunshine, and there's outdoor drinking and eating to be done. And don't come back until late November.

    Love and kisses,
    -L

  • Pro Bono Rocks!

JaleomenuSee?  Our menu says so! Once again I had a wonderful visit to DC for the annual Pro Bono Institute and a visit to our DC office.  I also, as usual, managed to eat and drink quite well while I was down there.  Wednesday night was a lovely Indian dinner at Rasika, Thursday was a huge group dinner at Jaleo (partial menu above), and Friday night was a cocktail/food crawl, courtesy of the DC Twitter crew: @VAScofflaw, @jakehparrott, @jasonmader & @highwaystar.  First stop, PS7's to visit the lovely @MixtressDC, next, Cafe Atlantico for a cocktail that included leather-infused tequila (yep, leather), after that, a wonderful visit to Proof (must go back for a full-on meal next time I'm in town), and finished up the evening at the Passenger. On my way back to NY, I had the pleasant surprise of running into my cousin at the train station; we took the train back together until she got off in Baltimore.

The rest of the weekend was all about relaxation, with a quick trip to Fatty Johnson's to bid it farewell on Sunday night.  Sad.  Looking forward to seeing what's next!

  • Bleh

Well, I guess it has been a while since I've had a full-on cold, so can't complain too much, I suppose.  That said, I'm such a baby when I get sick.  Had to leave the house this morning to get chicken soup and more Puffs with lotion.  Nose is still bright red.  I've been drinking tea, eating soup & napping all day while trying to squeeze in some work in between.  The annual reports won't wait for me to recover, I'm afraid.  Also missing my maiden voyage to the Rum House — I was supposed to go there tonight.  Instead, more nose blowing, soup, and pro bono reports.  Woe is me.  Many thanks to Twitter & FB folks wishing me well and hoping that @daisy17 & @PhiStu get well soon too!

  • Out With the Old

. . . and in with the new.  Wishing you and yours a happy and healthy new year and hoping that 2011 brings you happiness.  For all those who had kind of a crummy 2010, this one's for you, courtesy of Hugh at Gaping Void.  Always remember what's important in life.

  • Scenes from a Blizzardy Birthday

    Tower
I was looking forward to this all year! The seafood tower at Blue Ribbon, complete with lobster, scallops, oysters, clams, crab, shrimp, caviar, and two shots of Stoli.

    Backyard

And the view of my backyard on the way home.  Many many thanks to Noel, Sarah, Arlan, Rachel, Kim and Katie for trekking across states and boroughs through the insanity to help me celebrate what might have very well been my most memorable birthday of all time.  Love you all.

  • Call Me!*

    Called

Something odd has happened over the past year and a half or so:  I've noticed that I talk on the phone significantly less than I used to.  I'd wager that you might say the same thing.  I find that the majority of my interaction with friends, even the ones I used to call regularly, is now via phone, IM, or email, and it's often to make plans to catch up on person.  Why is this?  For me, I can say that I hate talking cell-to-cell, so will often limit my "big" phone calls to times when I am home so I can talk on my land line (yes, I have a land line).  Plus, I'd rather catch up in person, which is fine for local friends/relatives, but not so great for long-distance folks.  I'm going to try to be better about making more phone calls, but I hope that others will also feel free to call me, especially you out-of-towners.
