  • Things to Look Forward to in the Not-too-Distant Future

    – The weekend.

    – A lobster roll at the Brooklyn Flea.

    – Unloading a bunch of stuff to the Salvation Army to make space in my apartment.

    – Having my swim in the Hudson over and done with.

    Rum Tweetup.

    – A week at the beach with good friends and good food.

Mad Men season premiere, complete w/festivities.

  • Good News/Bad News

The NYC Triathlon is under three weeks away, so my training is kicking into the home stretch.  The good news — I completed a 6 mile run last night without walking a single step.  I've never done this, even in the actual triathlon last year, where I walked during the water stops.  The bad news — the replacement running shoes gave me a blister on the arch of my right foot.  Not sure if I should give them one more shot this weekend or go back to the old, old ones for the race.  Any advice from the runners out there.

In other news, I'm making slow and steady progress on the pictures from my trip.  Here's one to tide you over:

  • Even More Thoughts

    – Yes, I do most of my shopping at the farmers market, try not to eat processed food, and all that, but sometimes every once in a blue moon, a woman needs some Cheetos, especially on a crappy, rainy day like yesterday.
    – What do you do when you're so environmentally conscious that you always have your own bag, which leaves you to have no suitable garbage bags for your kitchen?
    – How is it easier to pack for next week's trip than for tomorrow's trip?
    – I go through more gym clothes in a week than should be humanly possible — I likely own more sports bras than shoes at this point.
    – A dinner composed of leftovers, a salad, a good friend, and a modestly priced bottle of wine can be just as good, if not better, then dinner out.

Have a great weekend, kids, I'm off to the beach.  Yes, I know the weather report.

  • Random Thoughts for Today

    – I hope this weekend's weather report is wrong — I really need a good beach weekend.  If not, I suppose I'll get a relaxing getaway weekend nonetheless.
    – I like packing for trips, but am always afraid I'll forget something important.
    – I'm enjoying Top Chef Masters, although the judges are much nicer to the contestants than on regular Top Chef.
    – I still love doing interviews but hate transcribing them.
    – I'm very bad at estimating how much pasta to cook, but that always means good leftovers.
    – I already need a nap.
    – I still wish I could work from bed, especially on a crappy raining day like today.  Easier for naps.

  • Slow it Down

This article, The Ten Essential Rules for Slowing Down and Enjoying Life More, caught my eye today.  Good advice for everyone these days. [via @gourmeted]

  • Time After Time

For some reason I really enjoy looking back through the archives of my blog to see what I was doing a year ago in any given month, or even looking farther back.  What was different? What is still the same?  Take a look at June 2008, 2007, 2006, 2005, 2004 and 2003 and let me know if you see any patterns, other than the fact that I seem to talk about food a hell of a lot . . .

  • Ka-BOOM

That was some serious thunder last night at around 2:30 a.m. — so strong that I felt the building shake a little.  And it seems that there's plenty more where that came from, as the rain is still pouring down and the sky is still rumbling.  Time for the red galoshes.

  • A Strange Phenomenon

Will someone please explain why it is that I prefer to set my alarm much earlier than I have to get up so that I have the option of hitting the snooze alarm repeatedly rather than set it for the time I actually have to get up, which would give me 30 – 45 minutes more sleep each night.  Also wondering why there seem to be helicopters circling above my apartment this morning . . .

  • Test Drive

After my painful experience with the last pair of new running shoes I tried out, I traded them in for the Nike Zoom Structure Triax+ 12 (hell of a name).  I'm happy to report that today's 5+ mile test run felt pretty good.  We'll see if everything feels okay tomorrow, and if so, will try them again for Tuesday night's group run, which is rumored to be the hardest one on our team training calendar.

After the run, I spent the rest of the day picnicking, napping, reading and relaxing in my backyard (a.k.a. Washington Square Park).  Not bad at all.  And now, early to bed and early to rise tomorrow (they tell me it's supposed to be good for me or something).
