  • Back on the Chain Gang

Just a quickie post before heading off to Delaware for the weekend.  Saw the Pretenders last night with Rob Y. at Roseland Ballroom.  All I’m sayin’ is that I hope I can rock that hard when I am Chrissie Hynde’s age.  I have one more week of craziness and then I’m of to Hawaii — who can tell me where to eat in Waikiki?

  • Maine Interrupted

    Lobster bake at Savoy

Thanks to Mother Nature, Orbitz, and Continental, our trip to Maine was cancelled, which was quite a bummer.  It was nice, however, to have a completely unscheduled weekend in the city, not to mention a three-day weekend.  To make up for the trip, I ate lobster all weekend, starting with a lobster roll at Pearl Oyster Bar on Friday night with Katie and Greta, eggs with lobster and spinach for brunch on Sunday at Ditch Plains, and capped off with Savoy’s lobster and clam bake last night.  I also beat my personal record for running — just over four miles!  In between all that, I made it out to the beach — just a quick trip, but super-relaxing, nonetheless.  We’re going to try to reschedule our Maine trip for a weekend in September.

  • I Made the Empire State Building Disappear

So I tried to take a picture of the Empire State Building on my way home tonight — the way the light was hitting it made it look almost fake, like part of a movie set.  Apparently, my camera phone sucks — you can’t even see it at all.

I’m home tonight packing for an extra-long weekend at the beach house.  We’re having our second annual pig roast (pictures from last year are here).  I’ve apparently been given the honor of singing the Star Spangled Banner while the pig is being carved.  [Note to family: probably not as high-pressure as some of my other Star Spangled Banner performances]

The 4th is also my brother and sister’s 25th birthday, so a happy early birthday to Bill & Katie!  Have a great weekend, everyone.  Anyone got any good cookout plans (or pig roasting tips)?

  • To the Beach!

I’m off to Fire Island for the first beach weekend of the summer; unfortunately, I’m not certain the weather is going to cooperate.  Deb is joining me and I’m in charge of cooking Saturday night — the menu includes grilled shrimp tacos with grilled pineapple salsa, grilled corn with chili-lime-garlic butter, black beans and rice, and a tres leches cake for dessert.  Can you tell I like to use the grill out there?

  • Back from the Jaunt Across the Pond

    150_5072

Still a little jetlagged/tired, but at least now the pictures are up.

Highlights, in a nutshell: Guys & Dolls, Who’s Afraid of Virginia Wolf?, Fino, dim sum, Christopher, Westminster Abbey, Borough Hall Market, strolling along the banks of the Thames, Cambridge, the Great Eastern Hotel, those awesome biscuits which would be the death of me if I were in our London office, tea at the Landmark Hotel, and the Pro Bono Tour of London.  Whew.  Somehow managed to miss Hugh while we were in town, but we tried.  And of course, I had great company.  Pictures are up on Flickr

  • So I Wanted to Tell You All About Vegas

and I will, I swear, but my week has been crazy, with a trip to Boston, a weekend in Portland, and now frantically packing for a week in London.  Leaving in a few hours and will be gone for a week.  So, I hope that you can forgive me, and perhaps I’ll manage to write a post on the plane for posting later.

  • It’s All About the Benjamins

Or at least one.  More on Vegas to come shortly.

    UPDATE: Pictures on flickr.

  • Momma Needs a New Pair of Shoes

    Vegas  baby

I’m off for the weekend (arrived here late last night actually) for a weekend with Sue &Nancy, my college roommates.  Any and all food recommendations are welcome.

  • Mmm . . . Cheesesteaks

This week’s destination is sunny Philadelphia, where I haven’t been in a few years.  Although I’m going for the Equal Justice Conference, my mind’s really only on one thing.  Take a wild guess.

  • Crawfish!

Gotta love it when you smell a crawfish boil halfway down the block and stumble upon this in the doorway of Royal Grocery in the French Quarter.  I didn’t eat any this time around because we had just come from lunch at Acme Oyster House (finally! oysters on the half shell + soft shell crab po’ boy = yumilicious!), but even though we spent less than 24 hours in New Orleans, we ate well.  In addition to eating at Herbsaint, I also finally made it to Mother’s for breakfast — "debris" on a biscuit.  I couldn’t resist.  Debris, for those who don’t know (I didn’t until about two days ago), is the pieces of roast beef that fall off into the gravy while cooking.  Breakfast of champions.

Ana’s wedding was lovely, although it made me realize how we don’t spend nearly enough time together back here in New York.  We’re going to work on remedying that.

Getting ready for the next trip — Philly on Wednesday.
