With the new year approaching, I thought it was time for a (mobile-friendly) makeover. I'm not 100% done tweaking it yet, but let me know if you have any feedback. I'm also thinking I might focus more on posting about cooking, eating, drinking, and exercise (yes, even more than I already do) . . . stay tuned!!

Untethered
My phone died Sunday afternoon. Well, it didn't die, per se, it just started to restart over and over again, rendering it utterly useless. I have been without a phone ever since. Yes, I know it's only Tuesday, but it feels like forever. A replacement is waiting for me when I get home, but I'll still have to charge it, activate it, blah, blah, blah, and I can't wait around for it, which means I'll likely be without a working phone until late tonight. It's actually somewhat liberating . . .

Unplugging
While I was in Maine last week, for a decent portion of the trip I was in a cabin on a lake in Casco, Maine. This was incredibly relaxing on many fronts, not the least of which was the spotty cell service and lack of wifi. Sometimes I don't realize how much time I spend either in front of a computer or checking my phone, futzing around on social media or texting with people. It was truly a pleasure to unplug and walk away from the electronic tether. Don't get me wrong — I still looked at my phone and walked over to our neighboring cabin for a dose of wifi every now and again, but nowhere near as much as I do in my day-to-day life in NYC. I'm going to try to maintain more unplugged time when I'm not on vacation — I've started with keeping my phone and tablet in the other room when I go to bed — and hope to carve out more unplugged time in addition. So don't take it personally if I don't respond right away . . .

My internet at home is down (posting via email at the moment) and won't be back up until Thursday. This means, sadly, that I have no TV (Netflix & Hulu are my only TV options), or phone (it runs through the internet). Stay tuned for a post later this week when service is restored!

Geek Love
I am in love. With my new phone. We're still getting to know each other, but oh, man . . . it's everything I've been looking for. The Verizon HTC Droid Eris. Sleek, smooth, functional, and great call quality. I've even customized it with my favorite pics — Lucy for when the keypad is locked and, as a tribute to my old phone, "the artichoke," have used the artichoke shot as my wallpaper.
I'll post pics of the phone at some other point, but you can see plenty (without my fabulous customization) online. Would like to thank my family for including me on the Verizon family plan (big money-saver, despite monthly fatherly analysis of my phone usage), and the lovely gentleman at the Union Square Verizon store who gave me a new phone battery to keep the artichoke alive these past few weeks.
