v. 2.0

  • Time Travel

As some of you know, I'm a huge LOST fan (and looking forward to the season finale this week).  I've been thinking quite a bit about time travel lately.  If I could go back in time and change things in my life, would I?  It's hard to say, given that I now have a different perspective than I had in those moments in time.  Generally I think that I'd leave most of my life unchanged, but there are a few notable things that I would have done differently if given the chance.  Right now, however, I am just dreaming of a fast-forward button.

  • This, I Believe

    – Sunshine has healing powers, as does a long run, and the blossoms of spring.
    – The internet can be a tough place sometimes.
    – Carol King is a wise woman.
    – Soft shell crabs can be a reminder that if you shed off your old skin, you can become something quite special, and often delicious.  They also pair quite nicely with a glass of white wine and the Beatles White Album.

  • Escapes

Currently plotting, planning, saving and scheming for a bike trip in Bordeaux at the end of June (counts as triathlon training), a beach week at the beginning of August, San Sebastian around Labor Day, Thailand in early winter, and if there's any funds left, Tulum in February.  Time to use up the frequent flier miles.

  • Strength

Can be found in clean sheets, a bike ride (likely) in the rain, and in the voice of Elvis Costello.

  • Reflections

    -  It is strange when the people who love you see you differently from the way you see yourself — it is just a reminder that we are always our own harshest critics.
    – In the past few months, I've helped to raise over $3000 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and over $7000 for City Harvest.  Here's to putting some good karma out into the world.
    -  Strength and support can come from many sources, including treating yourself well and relying on your friends when you need them.  It can also sometimes be found in marshmallows.

  • 4 A.M.

When I am upset or stressed, I wake up at 4 a.m.  On a good night, I can fall back asleep.  On a bad night, I lie there in bed awake, thinking about whatever has woken me up in the first place, until I go to the couch and watch mindless T.V., hoping to distract my mind and fall asleep again.  The odd part is that it's always right around 4 a.m.  Last night was one of those nights.  The good news is that I fell asleep again.  The bad news is that fucking bird is back

  • Gratitude

I've mentioned it before, but in addition to having an incredibly supportive family, I've got some pretty amazing friends.  I truly believe that relationships with other people are the crux of life, and that you get out of them what you are willing to put in.  A million thank you's to my friends, especially Arielle, Katie (and Jennie), Caroline, Tara, Beth, Lauren, Jordana, Kim, Roopa, Jenn R., Jenn D. & Viv, for your love, support, and strength.  I am also grateful for the healing powers of flowers, Joe's Pizza and Pearl Oyster Bar's lobster roll.

  • Have You Seen the Little Piggies Lying in the Dirt?*

Look at that snout!!!  Don't you just LOVE it!?!

    Pig snoot

I had the wonderful opportunity to visit a small scale abbatoir and farm upstate yesterday.  I learned a great deal about meat processing and fell in love with about ten piglets.  I swear I could have watched them all day.  Here's the photo gallery of piglet cuteness.

    * ah, the Beatles.  Gotta love 'em.

  • Dining

I am waiting for one more major piece of furniture at the moment — a dining table.  For those of you who have eaten at my apartment, you'll know that my "dining table" was, for many years, my coffee table.  This is now gone, and I'm planning on having a proper table that can expand for company.  Until it arrives next week, as my friend Jimmy discovered last night, my "dining table" is currently your lap as you sit on my couch.  The new coffee table substitute is backordered until June.  Slow and steady improvement, folks.  Slow and steady.  Pictures to come soon!
